Help fund mobile mammographies and free life-saving screenings for women affected by the coronavirus.
In the United States, even before the pandemic, low-income women in as many as twenty states were turned away or put on long waiting lists for free cancer screenings. At least fourteen states cut budgets for free cancer screenings. Overseas, many women have very limited to no access to these services, for example, in Sierra Leone only one mammogram machine is available.
The coronavirus has made it even harder for women to receive breast cancer screenings. Due to job loss and financial strain, breast cancer screenings have declined by 89.2%, according to JCO Clinical Informatics. What should be a free or low-cost service saving women’s lives is now drastically underutilized, putting more women at risk, especially given that if caught early, the five-year survival rate for breast cancer is 96%.
That’s why Greater Good Charities and The Breast Cancer Site are working with partners in the US and around the world to expand mammogram services, and even provide mobile mammographies, so women don’t need to leave their homes for screenings. Together, through the help of donors like you, Greater Good Charities and The Breast Cancer Site have funded over 18,000 mammograms for low-income, high-risk women in need. Now it’s time to respond to the urgent need created by the COVID-19 pandemic to support women’s health and safety.
You can help women in need get regular cancer screenings, even during this global health crisis. Every dollar will help fund free mammograms, so no woman has to put off her health and peace of mind. If you are able, give today!
