These masks are medium size if we are talking ear-to-ear. I think the "too big" comments refer to the quantity of fabric top to bottom. If you find that a problem, simply stretch the mask flat and iron the "pleats" firmly into place. Now you can control how far you open up the mask. Spread top and bottom, allowing the more central area to stay pleated. Easy. You may need to repeat ironing after each of the fist few washings. Soon the fabric will conform enough to reinforce the pleats by merely running your hand across the flattened mask a few times before wearing.
Research shows a double layer, quilt-quality-cotton mask to be the most effective non-medical mask. The quality and relative comfort of these masks makes them worth the bit of extra attention in the beginning.
I bought two of these in different styles. They are a little big, but I just put it where I'm comfortable and it's good to go. They are not meant to be medical grade masks, but I found that they were very good at blocking what they were supposed to, but still being breathable. I did the candle test and they passed. It get's one star off because the straps aren't adjustable, although they are fairly comfortable. I use mine with an extender to keep pressure off my ears.
This mask is well made with quality material...BUT BUT BUT yes, it is HUGE!! I am just 5 foot so not a large person. When I put this mask on it went under my chin to over my eyes and actually popped one of my contacts out. The only way I can keep it on is if I put the top part UNDER my nose. If you have a larger face, this will be perfect for you.
